Breast Lift in Santa Barbara, CA
Women usually experience some sagging or drooping with their breasts following pregnancy and nursing as well as with age. In Santa Barbara, CA, and the surrounding communities (including Santa Maria and Ventura), Sara Yegiyants, MD, FACS, a triple board-certified plastic surgeon, performs breast lifts (mastopexy) to restore a woman’s breasts to their normal, upright position and create a more feminine contour.
What is a Breast Lift (Mastopexy)?
Also called mastopexy, a breast lift restores the natural shape of the breasts by removing excess skin and lifting the placement of the nipple, or areola, to create a better contour. It is common to perform a breast lift in conjunction with other breast enhancement procedures.
Why Choose a Breast Lift?
While breast augmentation or reduction changes the size and shape of the breast, a breast lift is necessary to restore the natural position of the breasts. The skin loses its elasticity and, when stretched, does not return to a taut form.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?
When a woman is a candidate for a breast lift, her breasts tend to hang or sag with nipples pointing down. This is typically the result of pregnancy and nursing, a significant weight loss, or simply age. Dr. Yegiyants discusses the options with each patient during an initial consultation so that she can understand their concerns and what the patient wants out of breast surgery. Once she evaluates the patient’s breasts, she recommends whether a breast lift or other procedure is the best option to achieve the desired look.
How is a Breast Lift Performed?
There are several techniques used to perform a breast lift based on the quality of the skin as well as the amount of excess skin to be removed. Once the incision is made in each breast, the underlying tissue is reshaped and lifted, and the skin is pulled tightly. The incision is closed removing any excess skin. If necessary, the areolas may be reduced to be in better proportion to the breasts. After the procedure is complete, the breasts are wrapped with bandages followed by a compression garment to support and protect the incisions and breasts as well as minimize swelling.
How Long is the Recovery from a Mastopexy?
The recovery takes several weeks. Most women take a week off work to rest and allow the area to heal followed by a few weeks of light work. Normal activities may be resumed in a few weeks once the healing process is completed.
When Will I Notice the Results from a Breast Lift?
The results of a breast lift are immediately noticeable and get better over the next few months. It should be noted that scars from the incisions are permanent although they significantly fade over time.
How Much Does a Breast Lift Cost in Santa Barbara?
Breast lifts vary in terms of cost with each patient based on the extent of the lift and whether it is performed along with other breast enhancement procedures. During a consultation, we go over the costs as well as payment and financing options. We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards, and offer financing through Alphaeon® and CareCredit®.
