What Is Cellulite?
Cellulite appears as a bumpy, uneven skin appearance. Cellulite can occur on many areas of the body but is especially common on the hips, thighs, and buttocks. The condition is widespread, with more than 90% of women report some level of cellulite.
Many patients assume that cellulite is a fat problem, but it is much more complex in reality. Cellulite occurs when fibrous tissue bands pull the skin downward, making fat more visible and creating a dimpled appearance. Cellulite is a tissue problem, not a fat problem.
QWO®: The Newest FDA-Approved Cellulite Treatment
Cellulite treatments are often ineffective or highly invasive. QWO® is different. This treatment is the first of its kind, treating cellulite through less invasive methods using an innovative injectable solution.
QWO® contains CCH-Collagenase Clostridium Histolyticum. CCH-Collagenase Clostridium Histolyticum helps to break down fibrous tissue and redistribute fat.
QWO® recently received FDA approval and is the first and only injectable cellulite treatment to obtain this designation.
How Does QWO® Work?
QWO® targets cellulite in three distinct ways:
- Releases fibrous bands,
- Redistributes fat cells
- Stimulates collagen growth
Cellulite occurs as fibrous bands under the skin thicken and pull down on the skin. It is believed that QWO® helps to break down the build-up of collagen bands. QWO® fights cellulite at the source, deep under the skin where it develops.
Since this treatment is a new treatment, we don’t fully understand all the mechanisms of action yet. As more study occurs, we’ll better understand how QWO® fights stubborn cellulite.

What to Expect from Your First QWO® Treatment
QWO® is administered by injection. Before your procedure, you’ll meet with Dr. Yegiyants to plan out injection sites. Patients typically receive several QWO® injections (one injection to each cellulite divot) distributed across both buttocks.
After QWO®, patients can resume their regular activities with few restrictions. Common side effects include bruising, discomfort, areas of hardness, itching, redness, and discoloration. These side effects are temporary and usually resolve within several days of treatment. Dr. Yegiyants will discuss the risks and benefits of this treatment with you in more depth before your procedure.
To achieve full results, patients need a series of treatments. Most patients will receive three treatments, spaced 21 days apart.

Cellulite is a tissue problem, not a fat problem. It occurs in patients of every size and shape. While cellulite is more common in women than men, men can get cellulite. QWO® is currently FDA approved for use only in adult women. Many cellulite treatments for women can be safely used on male patients too.
