Revision Breast Surgery in Santa Barbara, CA
While most breast enhancement surgeries turn out exactly as planned, sometimes the results may not be the desired result. Sara Yegiyants, MD, FACS, a triple board-certified plastic surgeon, performs revision breast surgery on women living in and around Santa Barbara, Ventura, Santa Maria, and nearby neighborhoods in California, to correct the unsatisfactory results of breast enhancement procedures.
What is Revision Breast Surgery?
Revision breast surgery is a breast enhancement procedure that corrects a breast procedure that did not offer the desired results. Many revision breast surgeries address issues such as capsular contractures, asymmetry, scarring or a change in the implant size. Revision breast surgery is a safe procedure and when done by a well-trained plastic surgeon, results in the desired look.
With capsular contracture, scar tissue formed around the breast implant may cause the breast to become harder and sometimes painful. It also may look different. Revision breast surgery corrects this by removing the implant and inserting a new one through the same incision on the original surgery.
Who is a Good Candidate for Revision Breast Surgery?
Good candidates for revision breast surgery have had a previous breast enhancement procedure that did not turn out as they had planned. The breasts may be uneven in shape and size, and/or positioned in an awkward way, so they do not look natural.
How is Revision Breast Surgery Performed?
The technique for performing revision breast surgery varies with each patient. Dr. Yegiyants discusses the procedure with each patient during a consultation. If necessary, a combination of procedures may be used to achieve the desired results.
Revision breast surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes up to three hours to complete the process.
How Long is the Recovery for Revision Breast Surgery?
Since revision breast surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, patients may leave following surgery after the effects of anesthesia have begun to ease. There is some swelling and bruising following the surgery which diminishes over the following few weeks. The healing process typically takes about six weeks after which time exercise and normal activities may be resumed. While vigorous exercise is not allowed during the healing process, walking is recommended.
When Will I See the Results of Revision Breast Surgery?
The full results from revision breast surgery take several weeks to reveal themselves. It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle so that the results from the procedure are just as desired.
