Reasons for Seeking a Breast Lift
There are many reasons why patients may feel as though their breasts are drooping. For instance, pregnancy and nursing create many changes to the shape of the body; among these changes is a stretching of the breast tissue that often leaves breasts looking as if they are hanging down as opposed to perched youthfully on the chest.
Another common reason to experience sagging breasts is significant weight loss, which can reduce the amount of fat tissue in the breasts but leaves excess skin. While less common than other reasons, some women may consider a breast lift because they have a naturally sagging form to their breasts even as young women and want to experience “perky” breasts for the first time.
Finally, some women experience asymmetry or deformities in their breasts, and Dr. Yegiyants can correct these during the breast lift surgery. Ultimately, patients who have had a mastopexy performed by Dr. Yegiyants experience lift, more perkiness and roundedness, and an overall more youthful appearance to their breasts.
How Is Breast Lift Surgery Performed?
While there are several different types of breast lift surgeries, they all have the ultimate outcome of lifting the breast tissue and tightening the skin to restore breasts to their youthful position. Your incisions can be made in a number of locations, depending on what is necessary for your individual body. Dr. Yegiyants always has the ultimate outcome in mind and will choose incision location(s) to both minimize scarring and achieve your goals for positioning.
During the breast lift procedure, Dr. Yegiyants will reposition breast tissue to improve the fullness in the upper cleavage area while reducing the amount of sagging. She will also tighten and remove excess skin. If your areolas are excessively large or asymmetrical, she can address this as well, reshaping them to appear more proportional. Additionally, nipples are placed in a more upward or forward position. The combination of these changes allows patients to enjoy an aesthetically-pleasing silhouette, as well as more comfort when wearing bras, lingerie, and swimsuits, for instance.
Combining Breast Lift with Other Surgeries
It is important to note that a breast lift surgery alone does not significantly change the size of the breasts. The mastopexy is often combined with either a breast augmentation surgery in which implants are placed to enhance the fullness of the breasts, or a breast reduction surgery that will decrease the size of the breasts. A breast lift surgery may also be part of a “mommy makeover” set of procedures that is fully customized to each patient to help her regain her pre-pregnancy body.

In our boutique practice, you will meet with Dr. Yegiyants personally when you come in for your consultation. We encourage our patients who are interested in breast lift surgery to bring in images of their younger body or other pictures that can help us to understand their aesthetic goals.

Each consult is a personal and individualized experience – we strive to make sure we know your goals while providing the best possible care and service!
What Can I Expect During Recovery and Beyond?
The breast lift surgery will usually take 2-3 hours. After surgery, you will have a compression dressing in place to protect and support your breasts and minimize post-surgical swelling. You will be able to go home on the same day as your procedure and should expect to rest for the first several days following surgery. For the first few days, you will be most comfortable sleeping on your back. It is important that you follow all post-operative instructions to maximize your healing and promote the best possible outcome.
Most patients are able to return to regular daily activity within a couple of weeks after their procedure, but you should refrain from lifting anything heavy for several weeks. You will notice immediate results from your surgery, but it may take weeks or even months for your swelling to subside and your breasts to fully heal. Over time, the appearance of surgical scars will also fade.
