Deciding If a Rhinoplasty Is Right for You
A rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, can change many aspects of your nose. If you have a deviated septum or other structural problem that prevents normal breathing, this can be corrected through treatment. Others may be interested in rhinoplasty for cosmetic reasons, perhaps to correct nasal size and shape. Many individuals have a bulge or bump on the bridge of the nose, flaring of their nostrils, crookedness, or a bulbous, hooked nasal tip, which can be caused by traumatic injuries or hereditary traits. All of these can be corrected surgically, and Dr. Yegiyants offers extensive expertise in improving facial aesthetics. She will re-shape your nose to enhance your nasal function, your facial profile, and your confidence!
The ideal candidate for rhinoplasty is an adult who is in good general health and wants an enhanced facial profile or improved breathing functionality.

Sharing images with Dr. Yegiyants is incredibly helpful in making sure you are both on the same page with your goals. She will extensively review your medical records and discuss your treatment plan.
Dr. Yegiyants has advanced training in arts and aesthetics; she draws upon this background to study the natural shape of your face and make recommendations for re-contouring your nose. She strives to make sure the outcome of each procedure is natural-looking and beautiful. She will also take the time necessary to make sure she fully understands what you want for yourself and that you know what to expect throughout the process. Dr. Yegiyants will design a custom approach based on your nasal anatomy, facial proportions and desired look.
How is Rhinoplasty Performed?
Dr. Yegiyants can perform either a closed or open rhinoplasty, determined by your anatomy and desired changes. In either case, she may alter the bone, nasal cartilage, muscle, or skin, drawing upon years of training and excellent aesthetic sense to make changes that incur an excellent outcome.
During a closed rhinoplasty, incisions are made only on the inside of the nose. This allows for a reshaping of the nose with no visible scars. In contrast, the open rhinoplasty requires an incision across the columella or the thin strip of tissue between the nostrils. In both surgical approaches, the incisions allow Dr. Yegiyants to contour the bone or the cartilage to improve the shape of the nose. Open rhinoplasty is generally required when the changes to the nose are more extensive; the type of surgical technique necessary will depend on your anatomy.
In most cases for a reduction of the size or shape of the nose, reshaping occurs through the removal of tissue. When building up of nasal structures is necessary, cartilage may be grafted from the septum of the nose or other parts of the body, such as the ears or ribs.
Piezo Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty
Piezo Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that improves facial appearance by utilizing ultrasonic waves to help recontour nasal bones. Dr. Sara Yegiyants employs this technology to send high-frequency ultrasonic waves to the nasal bone, allowing her to remove specific bone fragments and dense cartilage with precision and without using antiquated nose surgery instruments like rasps and chisels. While these traditional instruments effectively reshape the nasal anatomy, they may also cause added trauma to adjacent facial tissues and contribute to bleeding, swelling, and scarring.
Piezo Ultrasonic technology is suitable for open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty under general anesthesia. This rhinoplasty surgery provides a unique advantage for minimal injury to surrounding deep soft tissues, adjacent mucosal tissue, and overlying nasal skin. The device also translates into minimal bruising, less bleeding, and reduced swelling. As a result, patients can expect a shorter and more comfortable recovery.
Furthermore, nasal reshaping is more accurate with Piezo Ultrasonic rhinoplasty as its incisions are more precise. This precision is because the cuts are performed with direct vision (not blindly) and result in bones not inadvertently fractured or splintered, as can happen with rasps and chisels.
Piezo Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty Benefits
Dr. Yegiyants performs Piezo Ultrasonic rhinoplasty as an outpatient procedure that offers significant advantages as it allows her to remove nasal bone and cartilage with heightened precision without the use of a chisel or rasp for the following benefits:
- Excludes chisel or rasp complications
- Reduces adjacent soft tissues, blood vessels, and nerve trauma
- Minimizes swelling and bleeding
- More precise than a chisel or rasp
- Eliminates splinter fractures
- Gentler than traditional rhinoplasty techniques
- Supports bone regeneration
- Shorter and more comfortable recovery
- Reduces post-operative discomfort
- Achieves a more natural outcome

What to Expect During Recovery and Healing from Your Nose Surgery
Before the surgery, you will be given detailed instructions on home care during healing. It is important that you follow all post-operative instructions to maximize your healing and promote the best possible outcome. These may include taking oral medications, applying topical creams or ointments, or icing and cleaning the surgical site. Dr. Yegiyants will make sure to answer any of your questions before surgery so that you can feel confident about your ability to care for your healing nose.
After surgery, you will have a splint and bandages placed on your nose and face. You may also have packing on the inside of your nose. These will protect your nose throughout the initial healing process; the bandages are usually removed about one week after the procedure.
As it is common to experience soreness and swelling for several days following the procedure, Dr. Yegiyants will prescribe pain medication to enhance your comfort. Most patients experience swelling and bruising to the nose, forehead, and around the eyes for several days, which peak during the first 48 hours following your procedure.
You will be able to notice the new shape of your nose once the dressings are removed. As the swelling subsides, you will see the ultimate results develop. Most the of swelling will be resolved within a few weeks. It can take several months, up to a year after surgery, for your nose to fully settle into its final form.
