Scar Revision in Santa Barbara, CA
Scars on the face are much more noticeable than anywhere else. They cause a lot of emotional discomfort and people to feel self-conscious about their appearance. Sara Yegiyants, MD, FACS, a triple board-certified plastic surgeon, performs scar revision on people living in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and Ventura, CA, as well as the surrounding communities, who want to minimize noticeable scars.
What is Scar Revision?
When people have noticeable scars, they work hard to camouflage them. Scars are formed when wounds close leaving a prominent mark. These scars are typically the result of trauma, acne or former surgeries. With scar revision, large, visible scars can be diminished and even eliminated.
Types of Scars
Thick scars from injuries
Burn scars that stretch across the skin
Ruddy scars most often across the cheeks from severe cases of acne
Result from large cuts or incisions
Why Choose Scar Revision?
Scar revision offers a way to diminish or remove large scars that are noticeable and draw immediate attention from others.
Who is a Good Candidate for Scar Revision?
Anyone with a large or noticeable scar may be a good candidate for scar revision; however, it is important to have realistic expectations about the results. While some scars may be eliminated, others may be greatly diminished.
How is Scar Revision Performed?
Scar revision is performed several ways based on the type of scar. Most often, Dr. Yegiyants reduces or eliminates the appearance of scars using laser treatments, dermal fillers, and even topical creams applied at home. As a last option, surgery may be done on a scar resulting from a wound or incision that did not properly heal.
Most treatments take an hour or less (except surgery) using a local anesthetic if necessary, followed by a few days of rest to let the area heal. We recommend that patients avoid strenuous activities including exercise and heavy lifting until the area has healed, and avoid direct sunlight for several months.

About Laser Scar Removal
Scar revision is often done using laser treatments in which low-level laser energy is moved across the scar to remove the outer layers of skin reducing the appearance of the scar. Lasers specifically target the scarred skin to eliminate it layer by layer. Laser scar removal is one of the primary methods to minimize or erase scars without harming the surrounding skin tissue.
When Will I See the Full Results of Scar Revision?
The full results are usually visible within several weeks following the treatments. It requires time to allow new skin to fill in the area and the healing process to complete. Once it is complete, it is still very important to apply total sunblock on the area where the treatment(s) are performed to prevent any discoloration from the sun.
How Much Does Scar Revision Cost in Santa Barbara?
The cost of scar revision varies based on the chosen method of treatment and whether other treatments are done at the same time. We go over the costs in detail during the initial consultation along with payment and financing options. We accept cash, checks and credit cards, and offer financing through Alphaeon® and CareCredit®.
