There is no perfect breast shape or size. As one of the top female plastic surgeons in the Santa Barbara area, Dr. Yegiyants sees a lot of breasts. They come in many shapes, sizes, and colors and are as diverse as our patients. Our goal for breast augmentation is never breast perfection. What’s perfect for one woman may be entirely wrong for another. We strive to create breasts that our patients love and feel confident with. If your breasts fall short of your expectations, you may be a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery.
Women seek breast surgery for many different reasons. Some of our patients have naturally small breasts and want to increase cup size. Other patients are seeking to restore shape or perkiness after pregnancy or breastfeeding. Breast augmentation is also used to reduce asymmetry and to correct congenital breast deformities.
There are many reasons to consider breast augmentation, and many different visions of what the ideal breasts look like. Dr. Sarah Yegiyants works closely with her patients to understand both their motivations and goals for breast surgery. These goals will guide the breast implant selection process. With hundreds of options available, we can truly customize your breast appearance by choosing the right breast implants.
Breast Implant Type
Stunning breast augmentation results are possible with all types of breast implants. Dr. Yegiyants is familiar with both saline and silicone implants and uses both regularly. There are advantages to both types, and she’ll guide you to the implant that best suits your goals.
- No Implants- For a small increase in size and a very natural look, breast implants may not be needed. Fat transfer into the breasts, also called natural breast augmentation, uses a patient’s own fat to add volume.
- Saline Breast Implants- Saline implants have a silicone outer-shell. They are placed unfilled into the breast and filled during surgery.
- Silicone Breast Implants- Silicone implants have a silicone shell and filling. There are two types of silicone breast implants that we use regularly: silicone gel implants with a soft gel filling, and form stable or gummy bear implants, filled with a thicker, cohesive gel.
Implant Size
Two identically sized breast implants can create dramatically different breast shapes. How does this happen? It all comes down to projection. Breast implant size is measured in CCs. There are very small implants that are around 100 CCs and very large implants that are over 1000 CCs. At each size, there are implants with low, medium, and high projections, or the amount that the implant extends off the chest wall.
Implant placement also affects size. Dr. Yegiyants uses a specialized breast augmentation technique called sub-fascial breast implant placement, where the implant is placed under a connective tissue layer on the pectoral muscle. By placing the implant above the muscle, we can achieve better results with a smaller implant.
Forget about size and focus on look. What do you want your breasts to look like? Dr. Yegiyants will help you find the right size for your breast implants.
Implant Shape
Breast implants come in rounded and anatomical shapes. Rounded implants are round, similar in shape to a jelly-filled donut. The shape of anatomical implants is closer to a natural breast shape. These implants are thinner at the top and more projected at the base.
Your desired breast shape will determine which option will work best. Some of the breast implants we use are textured; this helps to hold the implant in position and reduces rotation of shaped implants.
