When you’re feeling uncomfortable “down there,” a labiaplasty may be the treatment you need. This surgical procedure reshapes the labia, offering improvements in both cosmetic and health concerns.
Feel comfortable and confident during intimate moments, exercise, and other activities with labiaplasty by Dr. Sara Yegiyants. Here’s what to expect from your procedure.
What Is Labiaplasty? Can I Benefit from this Procedure?
Labiaplasty reshapes the labia. It can be performed on the labia minor (inner labia) or the labia majora (outer labia). Labiaplasty is commonly performed due to discomfort. Enlarged labia can rub against clothing, creating discomfort when wearing tight clothing or exercising. Large labia can also be uncomfortable during sexual activity. Patients may choose labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons.
What to Expect from Your Labiaplasty Consultation
If you’re thinking about labiaplasty, we encourage you to schedule a consultation. A consultation isn’t a commitment to have surgery; rather, it is an opportunity to learn more about the procedure and find out if it is right for you.
During your consultation, Dr. Yegiyants will perform a thorough examination. You’ll also talk about your medical history and lifestyle to ensure this procedure is right for you.
Bring a list of any medications or supplements you’re using to your consultation. We also encourage you to write down your questions and bring your list along.
Preparing for Labiaplasty
Once you decide to move forward with labiaplasty, the preparation phase begins. Patients need to arrange for help after surgery and to take time off from work so they can recover. Most patients need about a week off from work for their surgery. You’ll also need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from the facility.
Many patients find it helpful to grocery shop and clean the house before surgery. You may also want to fill your prescriptions so that you have them on hand and ready when you return home.
Surgery Day: What Happens During a Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure. You’ll be able to return home on the same day as your surgery.
Dr. Yegiyants customizes this procedure for each patient. She can tell you what to expect from your procedure. Dr. Yegiyants uses many techniques, including the trim and the wedge technique. Some patients will receive additional procedures including clitoral hood reduction, liposuction to the mons pubis, or non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation.
Labiaplasty Recovery
Patients recover from labiaplasty at home. Tenderness and swelling are common, and medications may be needed to help manage discomfort. We’ll also provide detailed instructions for caring for your incisions and keeping them clean.
Most patients are back to their regular activities in 1-2 weeks. It may take longer to resume strenuous activities.
- When Will I See Results? – Healing times vary. You’ll start to see results as swelling subsides and scars fade.
- When Can I Resume Sexual Activity? – We typically recommend that patients avoid sexual activity for six to eight weeks after surgery. Wait until you’re cleared by Dr. Yegiyants to resume sex after surgery.
